- Repair works on Candalagan Creek Bridge have currently ceased due to the extremities of subsurface damage. The bridge has been assessed by consultants and a 17 tonne load limit imposed. Budgets for replacement of the super-structure have been proposed for the 14/15 financial year and are subject to council’s normal budget process. Council will also seek further funding from the Federal Government who in November 2013 announced a $300M program to assist in replacing old and unsafe bridges. This funding is on a $ for $ basis and would allow for a complete structure replacement.
- Resurfacing of Captain Oldrey Park will commence in late February, early March subject to suitable weather conditions.
- Council has engaged contractors to repair the bore at Captain Oldrey Park to assist in the above mentioned re-surfacing works.
- Council’s water crews will be undertaking water main valve replacements in the near future. There may be periods of disruption to water supply. Residents will be advised accordingly in accordance with council policy. It is envisaged that disruptions will only be minor, for several hours maximum.
- Vegetation pruning of the existing shared pathway along Coronation Parade and Heath Street will be carried out in the next couple of weeks.
- A plan was presented to the group on the alignment of the proposed shared pathway in Grant Street from Heath Street to McNee Street. This plan also showed drainage works, a replacement bus shelter and kerb & gutter. Positive feedback was received and council design staff will work this plan up in readiness for construction. Drainage works are proposed to commence in late February, early March with kerb and shared pathway works to follow. Effected residents will be further notified prior to the commencement of works.
Notes relating to questions raised at the meeting
- Council notes a request that during periods of high rainfall large puddles form on either side of the footbridge located on the gravel shared pathway linking Broulee to the windsock. The request was to have additional material incorporated to the approaches on either side of the bridge to improve drainage and alleviate the ponding of water. Council will look into this request and advise further.
- There are several locations along the existing shared pathway along Coronation Parade where sight distance for users is limited. A request was made that council look at trimming vegetation to make improvements.
- It was noted that in Broulee and Mossy Point that there were no bus shelters located on the western side of the bus route. For those travelling north, shelter was limited in inclement weather.
- A question was asked as to whether council intended re-concreting the area between the north Broulee toilet block and the beach shower. This will be investigated and a further response will be provided.
- An inspection of the handrail on the eastern side of Candalagan Bridge is required as there appears to be further damage over the busy Christmas period and the damage may be posing a safety risk to the public.
- A question was posed as to the timing of construction for the next section of pedestrian path in Mossy Point. I can advise there is a draft budget line item in the 14/15 budget for a pedestrian path, Surfside Avenue to Annettes Pde (1.5m wide). This project will be subject to council’s normal budget approval process and will only become formal once adopted by council in the 14/15 Operational Plan.
- It was noted that asparagus fern was growing around the surrounds at Captain Oldrey Park. This will be conveyed to Courtney Fink at council for further advice.
