From the 25th May to 5th June 2015, Eurobodalla Shire Council will carry out its winter rabbit control program across Council reserves and roadsides throughout the Broulee – Mossy Point area.
Key areas that will be targeted include:
  • Mossy Point headland: closures will apply
  • Tomaga River foreshore reserve and boat ramp: closures will apply
  • Annetts Parade
  • Candalagan Creek car park – Mossy Point: closures will apply
  • Candalagan Drive – Broulee
  • Martin Place – Broulee
  • Coronation Drive foreshore reserve
  • Harbour Drive – Broulee
Typically, any closures to car parks and foreshore reserves through this period will be between 8pm – 2am on a week night.  Any regular user groups will be consulted prior to any reserve closures.

This control complements similar control enacted in the Broulee – Mossy Point area through winter 2014.

Notification and signage will be in place to ensure landholders and the general public are appropriately informed.

For more information or if you have rabbits harbouring on your property, please contact Paul Martin, Invasive Species Coordinator at Eurobodalla Shire Council on 4474 1269 or email paul.martin@eurocoast.nsw.gov.au

Richard and Lynn Noted previous minutes

The Coastal Zone Management Plan – meeting Tuesday 26 May 6-8pm at Broulee Primary School. Covers discussion of sea level rise.

Some members have noted that it is difficult to pay for Association Membership. We will discuss with Lindsay the option of providing online payments for membership, and see if there is a automated system to manage membership. At a minimum the preferred is to provide a Direct Debit option.

Richard moved a motion for Andrew to draft a submission to council to standardise Dog rules on Broulee beaches which addresses contradictory signage and takes into account the changed use and improved access to the beaches.

It was proposed that representatives of BMPCA meet with Council to discuss whether we can co-contribute materials that could be used in the stabilisation of sandy sections along the proposed bike path extension adjacent to the Airport fence line.

The fourth annual Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim was conducted on Sunday 8 March 2015 and our contribution to the event raised $1,400 for the Community Association. You can read the race report here

Next meeting is Thursday September 10th 7pm.

Broulee Ocean Swim Race Report

25/5/2015

The fourth annual Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim was conducted on Sunday 8 March 2015.  This was the third under the Hotondo sponsorship.

The organising committee were members from the Broulee Surf Life Saving Club and the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association.  The committee all did a great job applying lessons learnt from the previous three previous swims.

The conditions for the main course were unsafe with waves breaking across the exit from Broulee Island which would have caused swimmers to swim under the waves with reef below them. The

2015 swim was moved to the contingency location on North Broulee inside the lee of the island as part of the swim day risk assessment.

The conditions at North Broulee were flat and perfect swimming and the water was very clear and warm at 22.4C. There were small 0.3 metre wave at the beach.  The course swum was the pre-approved contingency course which was a 1.6km distance with a swim of just on 1.5km. The weather conditions were overcast and cool around 20C, water temp at 22.4C with a mild southerly wind which did not affect the swim conditions of North Broulee. A storm passed through Broulee at 5am on the morning of the event and presented a southerly wind. There were 229 swimmers that entered the water and 228 completed the distance. The walk up event day registration numbers were down significantly on previous years and the weather conditions seemed to be the reason.

The event was sponsored by Hotondo Homes (Principal Darren Phillips) in the last of a three year agreement and supported by number of local sponsors.  The swimmer’s feedback was excellent again this year.  A $3021.80 profit was made from the event and the allocation of funds split ($1400 each) between the Broulee Surf Life Saving Club and the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association.  The whole Broulee community were the winners on the day.

Event Facts and Highlights
  • 229 swimmers entered the water
  • As the contingency course was swam there were no records set
  • 139 swimmers were male and 90 were female (2013 had 151 male and 113 female)
  • The Over 50 age division had 62 swimmers and Over 70 increased from 6 to 8 swimmers
  • 65 swimmers came from Canberra
  • 77swimmers came from Broulee, Mossy Point, Moruya and Batemans Bay
  • 10 from Sydney and 3 from Melbourne
  • Dylan Appelqvist won his fourth Open Swim and Jane McCullum won the open Women’s swim.
  • The navy T-shirts with the new large swim logo and sponsors name were very well received.
  • Swimmer feedback was again excellent via email after the event.
