Broulee Development Meeting

15/7/2015

Special Community Association Meeting
Thursday 16th July 7pm
Broulee Public School Hall

As you would be aware, last year, Council approved a plan to clear the endangered forest at the back of Broulee to facilitate a major development. Recently they have  endorsed a change to the Local Environmental Plan which would substantially increase the size and impact of the development consisting of:
  • 500 new dwellings (roughly twice the size of Reflections Barlings Beach)
  • 1.4km strip of medium density zoning
  • Reduce the block size to 450m2
  • increase population to 3700 (a 60% increase)

Initial feedback from our members has raised varied concerns regarding certain aspects of this development.  We would like to hear your opinion?

This is not an anti-development meeting and we recognize that this development will proceed. But we believe that certain conditions need to be met to ensure that this does not adversely affect our schools, pollute our beaches and ultimately this development maintains the village character of Broulee.

Are you interested in learning more? Members from the planning department at Council who wrote the proposal will be at the meeting to field your questions.

We recommend that you review Council's documentation before the meeting. We have compiled much of this on our website: www.brouleemossypoint.org/development.html

While I would rather no development took place at all on this patch of bushland I accept the fact that it will go ahead in some form or other. My concern is that the development is in keeping with the character of the village of Broulee. I also have a number of concerns regarding the distribution of the medium density housing, the lack of green spaces provided in this development, the management of the storm-water and environmental corridor. We are NOT a town which is defined as a thickly populated area, smaller than a city and larger than a village.I believe that as a community we need to stay connected, stay informed and stay focused on ensuring this development enhances, rather than detracts from our Coastal Village.
