FootPath Update & RiffWizz Wrap

Mossy Point Footpath Update

Following on from our last meeting we have met with Greg Miller who is Divisional Manager of Technical Services at Council.  We discussed the new pathway at Mossy Point and Greg has explained the reasons why a wider shared pathway is not feasible in this location. The terrain and existing underground services make it prohibitively expensive to achieve a wider pathway.  Most of you would have noticed that work has commenced on this project and it is hopeful that it will be completed before Christmas. The new footpath has an improved 1.5m width when compared to the existing path coming up Beach Street from the bridge. I feel that, while this is not part of our shared pathway project, it is still a big safety improvement for the community. A big thanks to Greg for his time to discuss the project.

We will be meeting with council this week to discuss the wider Community Association priorities. We have also been contacted from some of the local sporting groups who have raised the capacity problems at Captain Oldrey Park with Council. We have invited representatives from these sporting groups to join the association so that we can provide a broader perspective on issues arising in our community. We will keep you informed of any outcomes from these meetings.

RiffWizz Wrap

What a great night! Chris Catt did a great job – the idea, the band to play live riffs and generous prize donations. We partnered with Broulee Surf Club and benefited from their organising abilities as well as sharing ticket sales. Thanks to Damien Coen for his opening songs and to Chris who led the band with flair. Michael Evans and Peter Haselden kept the night flowing with their excellent MC abilities. The scoring committee was kept busy as was the bar.

BMPCA made $2007 from ticket sales, raffles and donations, which goes into the Shared Pathways account.

Thanks to Tomakin IGA for the hampers to raffle.

Thanks too, to all those who participated in a very happy night.

Minutes of 13 November Meeting

With sadness it was noted that Dolores McGarry had died last week, wife of Bill McGarry who was a past president of this association.

General Business

·      Council will construct a pathway along Annetts Parade from Beach Road to Surfside Avenue. There was a strong objection to the new footpath only being 1.5m which is too narrow as a shared pathway. The committee will contact council to further discuss this.

·      It was noted that the priorities identified in the recent Council’s “Funding our Future” brochure do not align with the priorities as understood by the Association. The committee will contact council to discuss this including the extension of bikepath from the windsock to the North Head camp ground.

·      Sandcastle Competition. Richard Fisher has completed the various council forms for running the event. It has been moved to the morning to accommodate the low tide. The building component of the competition will be from 10:30-11:30am with registration running an hour before. Broulee Surf School will be providing the insurance and we will be asking the Surf Club to provide 2 first aiders.

·      The Tomakin Association will be running Carols by Candlelight on the 6th December.

·      Tony and Jayne Harrison from iGA Tomakin are generously donating money to the BMPCA from their Community Chest fund.

·      The Councils recent Rate Increase proposal was discussed. It was recommended that people put a submission into council if they have concerns about this.

·      The Sea Level Rise proposal is up for review at the council meeting next Tuesday. People were urged to make a submission to council if they have concerns about this.

The next meeting is 7pm Thursday 5th February

Mossy Point FootPath Construction

9/11/2014

Council's Operational Plan 2014-2015 identifies that a new footpath is to be constructed along Annetts Parade, Mossy Point between Surfside Avenue and Beach Road. This new footpath will connect to the existing footpath further south and provide an improved footpath connection between Mossy Point and Broulee.

The works are shown on the attached plan and involve the construction of a 1.5 metre wide concrete footpath adjacent to the front property boundaries. The footpath will be approximately 180 metres in length. To aid pedestrian movements and improve safety, a concrete crossing extension will be constructed at the Annetts Parade and Beach Road intersection. This will also include alterations to the stormwater drainage and a small section of retaining wall.

During the footpath construction, residents will have restricted access to their driveways for approximately two days to ensure the concrete footpath has time to properly cure before vehicles can cross it.

We intend to commence work on Monday 17 November 2014 and construction should take approximately four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Should you have any issues during the construction, please approach the supervisor on-site. If you require additional information, please contact me on 4474 1251.

Your patience and cooperation during the construction phase is appreciated
