Art on the Path is on this Sunday 6th October. Barbara and Ron Evans are running the BMPCA BBQ, but no doubt could do with some help if you can spare some time. We will be selling some raffle tickets for $100 dinner voucher which has been kindle donated by the Moorings Restaurant.

For those of you who missed the Broulee BushFire Brigade Open Day on the weekend, they will be holding a stall at the Art on the Path. They are encouraging you to come and discuss the development of the Broulee and Mossy Point Community Protection Plan.

1. Candlagan Creek Bridge Replacement
We have received the following correspondence from a local citizen, Ross Clark, regarding a suggestion he has made to the Eurobodalla Shire Council regarding removing the existing Candlagan Creek bridge and replacing it with a pedestrian-only bridge (see the attached photo of the pedestrian bridge which spanned the creek in the 1960’s). A summary of Ross's suggestion:
The bridge that joins Broulee and Mossy Point, toward the mouth of the Candlagan Creek, is an aesthetic and environmental disaster. It is dying of concrete cancer and while repairing it (if that’s possible) may offer a short-term solution, long-term we need to think again. Replacing the bridge with something similar will no longer be environmentally acceptable and installing a new, far longer vehicular bridge, would be expensive.
One option that deserves serious consideration is replacing the existing bridge with a pedestrian bridge that spans from one bank to the other - diverting vehicles over the George Bass Drive bridge.
A footbridge would look great, vastly improve the amenity values of the creek, make the precinct safer and more inviting for pedestrians and cyclists (especially children), free-up the movement of water in and out of the creek (especially in flood events) and much more. And, a footbridge would be a cheap long-term option.

2. Public Rally: South Broulee Seating
Local resident, Greg Howlett is holding a Public Rally on Saturday 19th October to gain support for suitable seating to be constructed at South Broulee beach to allow senior citizens and other less mobile members of the community to view the beach. The issue regarding adequate safe access to seating for senior citizens, mothers with children in strollers people with motorised trollies, walkers, and people with disabilities and their carers at South Broulee beach has been addressed with council for a number of years at least as far back as 2008. The issue has been discussed, a site approved by landcare (which department does not exist any more) and disappeared into the future planning abyss.
There are at present an average of 200 senior citizens living within Banksia Village and many within our community. These residents deserve to safely access the relaxing and therapeutic view the beach affords. For too long the senior citizens and disabled of the villages have been ignored in regard to seating at the beaches especially south Broulee where residents can walk to from Banksia Village but have nowhere to sit and rest.
A rally will be held at south Broulee beach on Saturday 19th October with the theme to bring a chair to the beach, sit enjoy the day, gather petitions to ask council to fast track this issue. The rally will commence at 7am going through until 9-10 am. All the community groups have been invited as well as the three local schools and the idea is to come along and support this issue and our senior citizens.
